Maya Devi Temple

Maya Devi Temple also known as the Janaki Temple, is a Hindu temple located in Lumbini, Nepal. The temple is considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the region, as it is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. The temple is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

According to traditional accounts, Maya Devi, the mother of the Lord Buddha, gave birth to him while holding on to the branch of a tree, and this temple is built on the spot where the tree once stood. The temple is built around a sacred pool and it has a stone sculpture of Maya Devi giving birth to Lord Buddha. The temple also includes a small museum displaying the artifacts found during archaeological excavations.
